It is the second oldest town in South Africa and also the commercial capital of the Eastern Cape. It is a coastal town and popular tourist port with beautiful beaches, elegant colonial buildings and nature rich in flora and fauna.

Gateway to the Western Cape Region, is the starting point for many scenic routes that show the wonders of nature as the famous African Garden Route and Karoo Heartland Route. From there excursions also depart Addo Elephant National Park, a must to visit when traveling to PE, and they inhabit all large African mammals, especially elephants.

The tourist office in Nelson Mandela Bay is located in a historic lighthouse on the Donkin Reserve with beautiful city views.

Getting to Port Elizabeth

Travel Portelizabeth has a domestic airport with daily connections to major airports in the country but hopes to receive international flights in 2010.  Its railway station, located in the city center, also offers good connections, like intercity buses have prepared lines to connect all cities hosting the 2010 World Cup.
