Each site needs to have a unique name. The names are allocated on a first come-first served basis. If the name you would like to use is already taken, myinfo will advise you on this and you can submit a different name. Once the name is accepted, this name will be included in your url. For example, if you selected the name 'BestInIreland' then your url will be www.myinfo.ie/BestInIreland/
Site Name tips
- Site names must not have spaces or special characters (£$'%^&*?></,") in them but you can use - or _
- You should try to keep your site name as short as possible (the maximum length is 16 characters)
Ideally, the banner image should be in jpeg format and should have a width of 960 pixels and a height of 100 pixels for the best outcome. However, myinfo will scale the image for the site when you upload it. Therefore, you don't need to be too concerned with the size.
The welcome page is the first thing that visitors will see when they visit your site. You therefore need high impact text that immediately lets the visitor know what the site is all about. You should think through the primary keywords you want on your site and then build these words into the text.
Search engines also will visit your welcome page first and will build a search profile based on the words on the page. Therefore it is important to include the words that people are likely to use when searching the web for a site like yours.
It is important to remember that sites are intended for people and not for search engines. The search engines are merely a vehicle for taking visitors to your site. You therefore should always optimise your content with the visitor in mind.
Perfecting your site is an ongoing process and you do not need to get it right first time. If you get the 3 elements mentioned above right, you will have a presentable site in place in minutes once you have signed up. You then can come back to the site anytime to refine your text or add products, events or special offers.
